چکیده

In 1927 Fanconi described under the title 'familial pericious-like anaemia in children' three brothers with fatal refractory anaemia associated with pigmentation of the skin, testicular atrophy, microcephaly, underdevelopment, squint, and increased tendon jerks. In the same paper he reported a case with muscular dystrophy, pigmentation, testicular hypoplasia, microcephaly, and anaemia of a similar type which remitted spontaneously while the patient was in hospital. The parents of this child were said to be brother and sister. Sporadic and familial

Clinical and chromosome studies in Fanconi's aplastic anaemia.

A pernicious anaemia-like picture of the peripheral blood associated with congenital abnormalities was first described by Fanconi (1927) in three brothers. Since then a similar syndrome has been reported from many parts of the world under the title of Fanconi's aplastic anaemia. Gmyrek and Syllm-Rapoport (1964) have reviewed 152 cases in the literature in considerable detail. Bloom et al. (1966...

Oesophageal atresia, VACTERL association: Fanconi's anaemia related spectrum of anomalies.

Oesophageal atresia usually occurs without any genetic background. Three cases associated with Fanconi's anaemia are reported. One neonate had growth retardation and numerous malformations including oesophageal atresia and four other components of the VACTERL association. In the two others, oesophageal atresia was isolated. In patients with such malformations an early diagnosis of Fanconi's ana...

Clinical and cytogenetic diversity in Fanconi's anaemia.

Abnormally high levels of spontaneous and mitomycin C or diepoxybutane induced chromosome breakage were observed in lymphocytes from eight out of nine previously undescribed patients clinically diagnosed as having Fanconi's anaemia. The results suggest that the combination of spontaneous and induced chromosome breakage is a good aid in the differential diagnosis and we suggest that increased ch...

A new autosomal recessive anomaly mimicking Fanconi's anaemia phenotype.

A family in which three siblings born to related parents all manifested clinical abnormalities characteristic of Fanconi's anaemia (microcephaly, short stature, slow growth, beak nose, micrognathia, skin dyspigmentation and forearm and thumb dysplasia in 2/3) is reported. All five family members had normal spontaneous chromosome breakage, a normal response to diepoxybutane and mitomycin C, and ...

Endocrine studies in Fanconi ' s anaemia

Four boys with Fanconi's anaemia and growth hormone (GH) deficiency are reported. Case 1 had isolated GH deficiency and responded to HGH and to oxandrolone treatment. Case 2, his brother, had milder haematological and dysmorphic manifestations and maintained a low-normal growth rate without treatment in spite of laboratory evidence of GH deficiency. Case 3 had multiple hypothalamopituitary defe...

Sister chromatid exchange in dyskeratosis congenita lymphocytes.

Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) frequency in chromosomes from lymphocytes of a patient with dyskeratosis congenita was 12-2 per mitosis. Our 33 normal controls had a mean of 5-4 SCE per mitosis and 5 patients with Fanconi's anaemia averaged 7-6 SCE per mitosis. The rate of chromosome breakage was only 0-5% in the dyskeratosis congenita patient and 0 to 2-5% in controls, while the Fanconi's anae...
